Some links for class today:
1. Music Video Tropes: A trope is a common theme or practice used in a particular artistic expression. In music, it can be a refrain. In short stories, it can be a "femme fatale." In movies, it can be the "muscular american hero." This is a list of common music video tropes that might be useful for identifying particular qualities in your music video.
2. Top 100 Music Videos of all Time: While there are many breakdowns of top 100 music videos, Stylus magazine gives a very interesting, and sometimes quirky, analysis of their top 100. You can probably find your music video here.
3. Lyrics Undercover: A historical breakdown of popular song lyrics.

I will be using YouTube for the (1) video source and for (2) another video that is posted by the band which talks about the song. I will be using CDUNIVERSE for the (3) lyrics and authorship info. Rolling stone will most likely be my fourth source there is a in depth (4) article about the song/band.
ReplyDeletePS Klosterman's review of Chinese Democracy was by far the best. The sad and absolutely bizarre Timothy Treadwell metaphor had me laughing out loud in a library. Thanks

When you are reeading the review for Chinese Democracy, consider this quote ".....it's the last album that will be marketed as a collection of autonomous but collective songs...."
